Explore Hungary on Two Wheels

From the Danube riverbanks to the shores of Lake Balaton, Hungary offers hundreds of kilometers of well-maintained cycling paths through stunning landscapes, historic towns, and vibrant countryside.

Why Cycle in Hungary

Hungary is one of Central Europe's most underrated cycling destinations, offering flat terrain, dedicated bike paths, and remarkable scenery at every turn.

2,000+ km of Paths

Hungary maintains over 2,000 kilometers of dedicated cycling paths, including four major EuroVelo routes crossing the country from border to border.

Flat Terrain

The Great Hungarian Plain and river valleys provide naturally flat cycling conditions, making most routes accessible to riders of all fitness levels.

Rich Heritage

Ride through UNESCO World Heritage sites, medieval towns, thermal bath villages, and Roman ruins that dot the Hungarian countryside.

Local Cuisine

Refuel at roadside csardas (traditional inns) with hearty Hungarian dishes like goulash, langos, and locally produced wines from Tokaj and Eger.

Bike-Friendly Transit

Most Hungarian trains accept bicycles for a small surcharge. Combined bike-and-rail trips let you cover more ground without exhausting yourself.

Affordable Travel

Accommodation, food, and bike rental costs in Hungary are significantly lower than in Western Europe, stretching your cycling holiday budget further.

Cycling Tips

Practical advice to make your Hungarian cycling adventure safer and more enjoyable.

01

Best Season to Ride

April through October offers the best cycling weather in Hungary. Summer temperatures average 25-30 degrees Celsius, while spring and autumn provide cooler, less crowded conditions ideal for longer tours.

02

Carry Water and Snacks

While towns are generally spaced every 15-30 km along major routes, some rural sections can be remote. Carry at least 1.5 liters of water and energy-dense snacks, especially during summer months.

03

Use BalatonBike365 App

This free mobile app covers over 1,000 km of cycling routes around the Balaton region with GPS navigation, points of interest, and information on cyclist-friendly services and repair shops.

04

Bikes on Trains

Most Hungarian intercity and regional trains allow bicycles for a small surcharge (around 500-1000 HUF). Look for the bicycle symbol on timetables. Group transport of 7+ bikes requires advance booking.
